Against the backdrop of the idyllic Barossa countryside, 11 punk and metal artists from around Australia will shack up at the Greenock Hotel on Saturday, 29 April, for the return of No Quiet.
The event will treat an all-ages crowd to heavy riffs and electrifying performances, featuring headliners SOSO, Drastic Park and local rockers The Vains, who will be supported by Mannequin Death Squad, Cheap-Skate, JudoCHOP!, PTL, Left On Seen, Stiff Necks, Moxie and Swainsona.
No Quiet organiser Dan Hill says the event came about as a way of giving young people in the region an opportunity to experience live music in their own backyard.
“I suppose there’s a lot of people that will quite often say there’s nothing for young people, everything’s alcohol-focussed, everything’s around the wine industry,” Dan says.
“That was kind of where we started the conversation, around how cool it would be to put on some alternative live music in the region.”
Last year’s inaugural event was a sell-out, despite COVID halting the festival for several months.
“I think it really goes to show that there is an appetite for live music out in the Valley, and not just in the Barossa but in any kind of regional area,” he says.
Capacity for the festival has increased from 300 to 500 people, following the success of 2022.
As an all-ages event, Dan says he hopes to capitalise on the region’s burgeoning punk and metal scene by giving young fans the opportunity to see some of the best home-grown talent Australia has to offer.
“We were trying to work on something to engage a demographic that doesn’t necessarily engage with the Barossa,” says Dan.
“When we were younger, growing up and going to things like Big Day Out, or even to little house parties and small dive bar shows, there was always that element of finding something new and meeting new people.
“That was what we kind of what we wanted to expose young people here to.”
If your interest hasn’t already piqued, No Quiet will also feature a popup tattoo studio, a live art show, food, and craft beer.
Tickets purchased before 15 April go into the draw to win a $200 tattoo voucher, but Dan urges live music fans and gig-goers to get in quick regardless, before the event sells out.
“One of the things for me that is really exciting, even now as an adult, is the feeling of community that you get going to shows, the feeling of discovery,” Dan says.
