The Director General, Nigeria Geological Survey Agency, ( NGSA). Dr. Abdulrazaq Garba,  has said that alot of foreign investors are now interested in coming to Nigeria due to the quality of the geoscience data  available.

Dr Garba made this disclosure, in Abuja, yesterday at an interactive session with journalists.

The DG explained that the increase in revenue generating by the mining sector  in the recent days indicate that the sector is improving.

He further added that the issue of unemployment that crippling the economy would be a thing of the past if the mining sector is properly developed.

” In recent times we are not doing badly as a country because  the quality of our geoscience data has tremendously improved; the investing world is beginning to accept some of the data that we are putting out into the public, even locally.

Quite a number of investors are interested in coming to Nigeria. Our data is being purchased by big time companies. There is an increase in the revenue we are generating and showing confidence in what we are doing, and we are getting there.

If the mining sector is developed it will employ a lot of people along the value chain, particularly upstream and there are opportunities in the downstream, and that is why some of us are committed to the sector to make sure the sector is opened up for employment,he said.

Speaking on the mining clinic which will be coming up on Saturday in Abuja on Saturday,he said it will provide an avenue to sensitize the public and also open their doors to offer assistance to small and artisanal miners. them.

“The mineral clinic is to provide advisory to all participants. It enables the public to see what we are doing. For some time now we have not been doing it. The Miners Association of Nigeria, NACCIMA, Directors, and other stakeholders will be there. We will also make some presentations of maps, solid minerals, and basically these are some of the things we are going to do.”
