The Bayero University Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), Kano, has secured the funding of its Agricultural programmes from World Bank and other donour agencies to the tune of $36m.
Professor Sagir Adamu, the Vice-Chancellor of the University disclosed this during a pre-convocation briefing, in Kano.
According to him, the centre has won the grants on its various research projects from 2014 till date: “Bayero University has continued to attract funding and support from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from Nigeria and beyond.
“CDA is one of the 16 World Bank’s Centre of Excellence (ACAs) in the country. Since 2014 the (CDA) won a $5m from World Bank, and the French development Agency (AFD) to consolidate its achievements and positively impact on the development grants of the West African region.”
The vice-chancellor further revealed that another centre called African Centre of Excellence in Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP) has joined the impact project by winning $6m from the World Bank.
“The center has students from 10 African countries doing masters programmes. They have been able to secure another grant of over $3m from donors to conduct high impact research.”
He added that, the Jigawa State government awarded a N36m contract for Dryland Agriculture of the university to conduct a research and improve dates production in the state and the country.
