Troops Kill Scores of Insurgents, Recover Arms in N’East

The Nigerian armed forces has celebrated a major defeat of terrorists in the north east of the country.

Disclosing this to the media in a statement in which it described as a significant military operation, the defence headquarters stated that troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully foiled terrorist attacks on Buratai, Biu Local Government Area, and Mallam Fatori Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

“The coordinated efforts by the ground forces and Air Component of OPHK resulted in the elimination of many insurgents and the recovery assorted arms and ammunition”, the statement signed by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. MG. Kangye disclosed.

Continuing, the director informed, “In Buratai, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate troops’ locations in the early hours of Thursday 5 June 2025, but were swiftly engaged by troops with heavy gunfire, supported by close air support from the Air Component. Several lifeless bodies of terrorists were discovered, and a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. Troops are currently exploiting the general area.

“In a related development at Mallam Fatori, troops foiled another attack by terrorists, who attempted to attack troops’ locations from different fronts. The troops engaged the insurgents with superior firepower, causing them to flee in disarray.

The troops pursued retreating terrorists, killing scores of them. Preliminary discoveries revealed several terrorists killed, with many AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns, Rocket Propelled Guns, and other terrorist equipment recovered”.

Reaffirming the resolve of the Nigerian Armed Forces to deny terrorists freedom of action in the northeast, Kangye acknowledged the success of Operation HADIN KAI as a testament to “the renewed resolve, determination, and resilience of our troops, who continue to work tirelessly to secure our nation”.

Again, the Defence Headquarters assures Nigerians of its continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of our citizens.
