The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has unveiled an ambitious plan to rehabilitate and upgrade all general hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres across the FCT in 2025.
Announcing this at the unveiling of the newly upgraded Barrister Nyesom Wike VIP Ward at Maitama District Hospital, Abuja, on Thursday, the Mandate Secretary for Health Services and Environment, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, said the initiative aligns with the administration’s vision for world-class healthcare.
“There will be a general rehabilitation, upgrading, and replacement of equipment in the 2025 budget for all hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres in the FCT. His Excellency, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has approved this, along with the immediate fixing of all remaining call rooms,” she stated.
Dr. Fasawe described the upgraded BNW Ward—a five-bed state-of-the-art amenity ward—as a milestone in improving patient care. “Comfort and personalised care are crucial to recovery. This ward ensures that even those who would typically seek private healthcare can receive premium services within our public hospitals,” she noted.
The World Health Organisation Country Representative, Dr. Walter Mulombo, hailed the initiative, saying, “This is a step towards reversing medical tourism. We need more leaders like Dr. Adedolapo to accelerate healthcare improvements.”
With a self-sustaining maintenance plan and a 20% discount for FCTA medical personnel, the FCT government aims to replicate the model across its hospitals, ensuring lasting healthcare reforms.
