Tanker Explosion Claims 4 Lives, Destroys Properties in Delta

A devastating petrol tanker explosion occurred in Agona, Ika South Local Area of Delta State, leaving four deaths.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edaf, at least five people are feared dead, and several properties were destroyed in the inferno that engulfed the area on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker, loaded with petrol, fell and burst into flames while attempting to make a turn along the Old Asaba-Lagos road.

The explosion and resulting fire destroyed several buildings, including a branch of First Bank and Access Bank, as well as four houses and an Anglican church. Two vehicles were also burnt in the blaze.

A witness described the scene as “devastating,” stating, “We were told that the petrol tanker fell by the First Bank in Agbor when the driver tried to make a turn at the old Lagos/Asaba road… We are yet to see firefighters at the scene, the fire is still burning as I speak to you now.”

The incident has left the community in shock, with many calling for urgent action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
