The Katsina State Government has outlined a series of significant investments in the health sector, aiming to improve access to quality healthcare for its citizens.
The state Deputy Governor, Faruk Lawal, disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday and detailed a range of initiatives undertaken since May 2023, including the recruitment of 254 health personnel, the provision of full scholarships for 41 medical students in Egypt, and the construction of state-of-the-art medical facilities.
“This administration has from inception accorded priority to quality healthcare services,” Lawal emphasized, highlighting the recruitment of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals to address the growing healthcare demands within the state.
The government has also taken steps to enhance the capacity of local medical professionals. This includes the initiation of residency training programs in key specialities like Obstetrics and Gynecology Pediatrics, as well as sponsoring resident doctors for training in other institutions across the country.
“We are committed to curtailing medical tourism,” Lawal stated, emphasizing the completion of a dialysis centre at General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital, considered one of the best in the country.
The construction of a modern imaging and diagnostic centre is also underway.
The government has also focused on improving healthcare infrastructure. 146 primary healthcare facilities have been upgraded, and several Comprehensive Health Centers have been elevated to General Hospital status.
Furthermore, the state has strengthened its drug supply chain, ensuring the availability of quality medications through a revolving scheme.
A new pharma-grade warehouse has been established to facilitate the efficient storage and distribution of essential medicines.
The government has also prioritized preventative healthcare measures, including campaigns against HPV and cervical cancer, sickle cell anaemia, and seasonal malaria.
“This administration is determined to move Katsina State to a higher level through the implementation of people-oriented policies and programs,” Lawal concluded, emphasizing the government’s commitment to serving the people of the state.
The press briefing underscores the Katsina State government’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of its citizens through a multi-pronged approach that includes human resource development, infrastructure upgrades, and enhanced access to quality healthcare services.
