Police Warn Against Fraudulent Use of IGP’s Name

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning against the misuse of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun’s name, following reports of unprofessional officers exploiting his office for fraudulent activities.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Force’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, expressed deep concern over the conduct of a few officers tarnishing the force’s reputation.

“The Nigeria Police Force is concerned about the persistent unprofessional conduct of a few police officers, which undermines the standards and reputation of the Force,” the statement read.

Adejobi stressed that, despite repeated disciplinary actions, certain officers continue to engage in activities that erode public trust.

More alarming, according to Adejobi, is the fraudulent use of the IGP’s name to carry out illegal activities. “These officers intimidate victims by falsely suggesting that the IGP is aware and approves of their actions, deterring them from reporting the crimes,” he added.

The Nigeria Police Force has urged the public to be vigilant and report any misconduct or fraudulent behaviour.

Adejobi encouraged citizens to contact appropriate authorities, including the Complaint Response Units in states or their local Commissioner of Police, if they encounter such incidents.
