The federal government has approved N30 billion to support the nation’s 30 universities of agriculture in commencing mechanized farming.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made the announcement in Abuja today, directing specialized universities to focus on their core mandates and discontinue unrelated programs. Each university will receive N1 billion as a take-off grant.
Dr. Alausa emphasized the importance of universities of agriculture owning and operating mechanized farming systems.
This initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity and promote food security in Nigeria.
The minister’s directive is expected to streamline academic programs and foster specialization in agriculture, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic growth.
