Ondo IRS Workers Protest over Non-Payment of Minimum Wage

Workers of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) staged a peaceful protest on Friday, demanding payment of the new minimum wage.

The junior employees, who arrived at their office at 8am, blocked entrances and prevented senior officials from gaining access, vowing not to return to work until their demands were met.

They claimed that while other state employees received the new wage for November, they were still paid meagre wages, highlighting the stark contrast between their compensation and that of senior executives.

The Special Adviser to Ondo Governor on Union Matters, Bola Taiwo, assured the protesters that the issue would be resolved soon.

Taiwo explained that the governor had directed that ODIRS workers be paid the new minimum wage, and the approval would be signed shortly.

“His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has given a directive that all the workers should be paid. And to the best of my knowledge, the directive has been carried out which means that the workers’ demand has been met.”, Taiwo said.
