Academic and Non-Academic Staff in Bauchi Declare 2-Week Warning Strike

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Academic and Non-Academic Staff of state-owned tertiary institutions in Bauchi State has announced a two-week warning strike, set to commence on Monday, December 17th, 2024.

The decision was reached after an emergency meeting held at the NUJ Press Center on Thursday, December 12th. This follows an earlier 21-day ultimatum issued on November 19th, 2024, which has now expired.

The primary reason for the strike is the non-implementation of the new salary structure for staff members. Despite recent salary adjustments, the JAC contends that these changes fall short of their expectations and demands, which are based on the approved salary tables by the National Salaries Income and Wages Commission.

Comrade Abubakar Ahmed, Chairperson of the JAC, expressed disappointment over the government’s lack of engagement throughout the ultimatum period.

He emphasized that the strike is a necessary step to compel the government to address their concerns.

The JAC has called on all its members across the state, including staff from the College of Education, Azare and Kangere, the College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau, Tatari Ali Polytechnic, and the College of Agriculture, to fully comply with the strike directive.

The JAC has expressed regret for any inconvenience the strike may cause to students, parents, and the general public.

They assure the public that they are committed to resolving the issue and returning to normal academic activities as soon as possible.
