The Nigerian National Grid has experienced yet another collapse, just a month after the last major failure. This was confirmed on the grid operator’s official page on X (formerly Twitter), where a brief statement read: “Major Grid Set Back has occurred, Restoration to commence.”
The repeated failures of the National Grid have drawn widespread criticism from Nigerians. Many have taken to social media to express their frustration with the recurring outages.
One user, Ben, lamented the predictability of the grid’s failure, saying, “I knew it. Noticed the way it went off. This is where we are. The grid goes down at least once a month.”
Popular influencer Daniel Regha also voiced his dismay, describing the situation as disgraceful. He tweeted, “As expected, nothing breaking about this news. How many times this year now? Disgraceful.”
The grid’s persistent instability has fuelled calls for urgent reforms to Nigeria’s power infrastructure, as citizens grapple with the impact of frequent blackouts on daily life and businesses.
