NAFDAC Crackdowns on Counterfeit Alcohol Shuts Down Facility in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an illegal facility for producing counterfeit alcoholic drinks located on Offin Road, Balogun, Lagos Island.

The raid, initiated by a public tip-off, uncovered a store secretly turned into a production facility for counterfeit beverages.

In a statement released to Africa Health Report (AHR) on Monday, NAFDAC revealed, “We found and destroyed several types of counterfeit alcoholic drinks on the premises. We also seized packaging materials, empty bottles, and repackaged products worth more than ₦30 million.”

The agency has initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the network involved in the operation. “Consumers need to stay alert. We strongly encourage everyone to buy drinks only from trustworthy sellers and to report any suspicious behaviour to NAFDAC,”

This operation underscores NAFDAC’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding public health and ensuring the safety of products available in the Nigerian market.
