President Bola Tinubu has appointed Daniel Bwala as his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications.
In that capacity, Bwala replaced Chief Ajuri Ngelale who stepped down on September 7 citing family reasons.
The announcement was made through a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who also revealed that Tinubu has appointed three other individuals as director-generals of various agencies.
These appointments excluded some of the recently converted Tinubu supporters, like Femi Fani-Kayode, Doyin Okupe and Reno Omokiri.
Bwala, a lawyer and renowned public affairs analyst, previously served as a spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign team in the 2023 election.
Notably, he was a vocal critic of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu during the campaign.
However, following the election, Bwala distanced himself from the PDP and expressed his intention to join the APC, stating that his support for the administration was not driven by selfish motives ¹.
Tinubu’s appointment of Bwala has sparked varied reactions, with some critics labelling him a “fair weather politician” due to his shift in allegiance.
Others have pointed out that Bwala’s previous criticisms of the APC and Tinubu now place him in a position where he must “swallow his words”.
In addition to Bwala’s appointment, Tinubu has also named Olawale Olopade as Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Abisoye Fagade as Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, and Adebowale Adedokun as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement.
“The President enjoins the newly appointed officers to discharge their duties with dedication, patriotism, and excellence.” the statement concluded.
