Shakeup Looms in DSS, Spokesman, Afunanya, Others Redeployed

Strong indications emerged Wednesday that the newly appointed Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Mr Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, has commenced a major sheke up.

The DG who assumed office on 28th August 2024, harped on unity of purpose among staff and enjoined them to remain disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties.

The DG also stated that the Service “will step up covert operations in gathering intelligence and confronting national security”.

Ajayi said this at a press conference on Wednesday that the security agency needs to concentrate on its core mandate of covert operations so as to strengthen national security than being seen and heard.

Ajayi who replaced Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi assured that he would work with relevant stakeholders with utmost commitment and deep sense of responsibility so as to surmount challenges confronting Nigeria’s economic, political and security environments. The objective, according to him, is to achieve peace and stability necessary for development.

In shake up, the Director of PR and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunanya, Ph.D, has been reassigned. He was redeployed to a yet to be disclosed unit, having held the position of spokesman for the Service for the past 10 years. On Wednesday, Afunanya in a terse message sarcastically informed of the looming shake up while pledging loyalty.
