FG Advises Expectant Mothers to Vaccinate Against Tetanus, Others

The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) has cautioned pregnant women of the dangers associated with tetanus and diphtheria infections during pregnancy.
The primary health agency gave the warning on Monday at it official tweeter handle titled ‘Taking Tetanus and Diphtheria Immunization is very important for all pregnant women’.
The agency further stated that tetanus and diphtheria infections during pregnancy can lead to the loss of the baby.
According to the statement:”Tetanus and Diphtheria infections can be deadly to a pregnant woman and can cause the loss of the baby.”
Recall that as of January 23,about 123 cases of diphtheria disease were confirmed, and 38 deaths in four states of Nigeria,according to the
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
The tetanus-diphtheria vaccine administered during pregnancy is used as a toxoid vaccine with an intact antigen structure,according to experts.
